Charles River Monster Cannibal Crappie

At lunch today, I went down to Nahanton Park, in Newton, to fish the Charles under the bridge.

I fished for 45 minutes with no luck on senkos or crankbaits.

As my lunch hour would be over soon, I tied on a 2” Strom Wildeye Live Crappie, from a pack my wife bought a couple months ago. We had fished them multiple times without a bite, but I thought I would give it a try.

Low and behold, on my second cast, I caught something. When I got it to shore, I was surprised to see a really big black crappie. It had not only taken the bait, it had inhaled the whole thing.

Unfortunately, while I was fumbling for my iPhone it jumped the hook and escaped (I had removed the bottom treble so it would not get caught on the rocks.

I was tickled pink, by catching a really big crappie, by catching something on a swim bait, and how the fish inhaled it.

Good fishing,
Patrick
